Jane Chapman | Willow Basket making course | Thursday 5th June & Friday 6th June 2025

£195.00

2 day course

10am - 4pm

8 places available

On this two day workshop you will spend a lovely couple of days with Jane learning the process involved in creating a beautiful round shopping basket using the stake and strand weaving method.

You will begin by looking at the importance of material selection, then go on to weave the base and sides, turn down the border and finally add a bow handle.

Throughout the course you will learn about material preparation and a number of different weaves including pairing, waling, French randing, how to drop a border and wrap the handle.

A selection of different varieties of UK grown willows will be provided together with tools and equipment for you to use.

Delicious homemade lunches will be served each day in the Walled garden next to the workshop and participants will also be kept fuelled with cakes and teas throughout each day.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those with some weaving experience who may like to explore variations in some of the weaves. Willow weaving can be hard on the hands and may not be suitable for those with conditions which restrict strength and manual dexterity.

Bed & Breakfast, Camping or Self catering accommodation available please just ask us for more information.
